ABOUT  ME

Picture

Though my first name is Muriel, I've always been called Dee, my middle name.
My mom was a reader and passed on her love of books -- Little Golden Books,
Mary
Poppins, fairy tales, biographies and Nancy Drews. My dad wrote cool
poetry and made up
stories about Bobo the Bear, who always got into mischief
like me.
Hmmm.

We moved often. In Key West, I  learned to swim. At Virginia Beach, I explored
the beach and shore line. In Washington, D.C., I visited the Smithsonian, Mt.
Vernon, the Library of Congress, Capital and White House. Norfolk, VA was
where I took riding lessons and caught crabs in
Charleston, SC,  I collected
pets  - Siamese cats, birds, a cocker spaniel and two chihuahuas, but NOT ALL
 AT ONCE.

I loved school, creating projects, painting and collecting...even weird things my tonsils. After surgery,

I proudly showed them off in school for Show and Tell.

After college, I taught elementary school and now I write the  picture books, chapter books and middle grade novels. I'm fascinated by nature, animals, science, STEM , technology, art, space, and more. I'm passionate about protecting our ocean ecosystem, clean water and wildlife.

I'm  thankful for my wonderful husband, children and grandchildren and grateful for critique partners and Kidlit friends.  I'm blessed to have Joyce Sweeney of The Seymour Agency representing me.

FIELD TRIPS

You never know what you'll find in the Florida Keys...a lobster bigger than yourself...a traveler at a rest stop...an arch of palm trees. It's a magical place to visit.

On My Reading Shelf...

"The true tales I write spring directly from my own experiences, passions, heartbreaks, obsessions, fears, quirks, curiosities, beliefs, desires. Writing nonfiction is like sitting before a blank screen and scraping off a piece of myself."
